In short
A zebra blind — also sold as a duplex or day-night blind — is a single fabric printed in alternating sheer and solid horizontal bands, running on a double layer. Sliding one layer against the other moves you from full view through to full privacy without raising the blind at all.
How does the day-night mechanism work?
Two layers of the same banded fabric hang on one roller. When the solid bands line up with the sheer bands the blind is closed; sliding them so solid meets solid opens a clear view. You control light and privacy without changing the blind height.
Do they give privacy at night?
Closed, yes for most situations — but they are not blackout. Light passes through the sheer bands even when aligned, so a zebra blind in a bedroom is usually paired with a curtain if the room needs to be genuinely dark.
Where do they work best?
Living rooms, home offices and any window where the view matters but glare is a problem. They are the most-requested blind in Dubai apartments because they solve the daytime glare-versus-view conflict on a single mechanism.

Questions
Zebra Blinds, answered.
No. Even fully closed, light passes through the sheer bands. For a bedroom pair them with a blackout curtain, or choose a blackout roller instead.
About 2.8 metres before the tube deflects and the bands stop aligning cleanly across the width. Wider windows are better as two blinds on one headrail.
Yes. The mechanism is a standard roller tube, so motorisation is straightforward with battery or hard-wired options.
Vacuum with a brush head or wipe gently with a barely damp cloth. Do not scrub — the banded fabric is a printed weave and abrasion shows.
Yes, if the blind is fitted square. Misalignment almost always traces back to an out-of-level headrail rather than the fabric.
A moisture-resistant fabric version is, though a plain roller or aluminium venetian is usually the better answer in a wet room.
