In short

Wave — also called ripplefold — runs the fabric on a corded track with evenly spaced glides, so it falls in one continuous S-curve from top to bottom with no pleats at all. It is the cleanest, most contemporary heading available and stacks tighter than any pleated alternative.

Why does wave stack so much tighter?

Because there are no pleats taking up depth at the heading. The fabric concertinas evenly onto the track, so a wave curtain clears more glass when open than a pinch pleat of the same width — which matters on a window you actually want to see out of.

Does it need a special track?

Yes. Wave only works on a dedicated wave track with corded glides at a fixed spacing, usually 60mm or 80mm. It cannot be retrofitted to an ordinary track, so the track is part of the specification from the start.

Which fabrics work best?

Anything with a consistent drape — sheers, plain linens, soft blends. Wave shows the fabric itself rather than a decorative heading, so the material has to be worth looking at. Heavy patterned fabrics fight the simplicity of the curve.
