Why does blackout matter so much for children?
Because daytime sleep is the whole point. Dubai daylight is strong from early morning, and a room that cannot be darkened turns every nap into a negotiation. Blackout lining is the single most useful thing in a nursery window.
Which fabrics survive a child?
Washable polyester blends and treated cottons. Both take repeated cleaning without shrinking away from the floor. We avoid delicate naturals and anything that has to be dry cleaned every time something is spilled on it.
Should I choose a pattern they will grow out of?
Usually not on the curtains. Curtains are the most expensive thing in the room to change — keep them plain and let bedding and wall art carry the theme, which costs far less to replace at seven than at three.

In children’s rooms we specify cordless or motorised operation as standard, and any chain that remains is fitted with a tensioned safety device. We will not leave a loose looped cord in a child’s room.
Unlined and washable-lined options can. Full blackout linings are better dry cleaned, because the lining and face fabric shrink at different rates.
With blackout lining, a track fitted wider than the window and closed returns, close to fully dark. Adding a pelmet closes the last of the top leak.
Floor length is fine and looks better; the safety issue is cords, not fabric. In a room with a toddler we sometimes suggest sill length simply to keep it out of reach of pulling.
Curtains generally seal light better and soften sound. A cordless blackout roller behind a curtain is the belt-and-braces option for a room that has to be truly dark.
Yes, and parents of young children use it more than anyone. A gentle timed open at wake-up is a common request.
