What length works in a dining room?
Floor length, finishing about 1cm clear of the floor. Sill-length curtains in a dining room look under-scaled against a large table and do far less for the acoustics, because there is simply less fabric in the room.
Which fabrics suit a room where people eat?
Tightly woven polyester blends and treated linens. Both release cooking smells rather than holding them and can be dry cleaned without shrinking. Open-weave natural linen holds odours and is the usual regret in an open-plan kitchen-diner.
Curtains or blinds for a dining room?
Curtains, in almost every case. The acoustic gain is the deciding factor, and dining rooms rarely have the moisture problem that pushes you towards blinds. A roman blind is a good compromise where the window is small.
