In short
A double pinch pleat gathers the fabric into two folds hand-stitched at the heading, repeated across the width. It gives a crisp, evenly spaced vertical rhythm that holds its shape for the life of the curtain, and it is the heading most people picture when they think of a properly made curtain.
Double or triple pleat?
Double uses less fabric and gives a lighter, more contemporary line. Triple is fuller and more formal, and needs more fabric and more height to look right. In apartments with standard ceilings, double is usually the better proportion.
How much fabric does it need?
About two to two-and-a-quarter times the track width. Below twice the width the pleats sit too far apart and the curtain looks starved between them, however good the fabric is.
Track or pole?
Track, normally. Pinch pleats hang from hooks, so a track gives a cleaner line, seals better at the top for blackout, and can be motorised. A pole works but puts the hardware on show, which fights the tailored look.

Questions
Double Pinch Pleat Curtains, answered.
Yes. The folds are stitched, not gathered onto a tape, so they hold permanently. That is the main reason pinch pleats cost more than pencil pleats.
Yes, and on a track they seal well at the top. Add a centre overlap and closed returns to the wall and you get close to complete darkness.
Yes. Pinch pleat on a motorised track is the most common high-end specification we fit, because the heading stacks so evenly under power.
Dry clean only. The stitched pleats and the lining behave differently in water and washing distorts the heading permanently.
Very well. The pleat spacing is calculated from your finished width so the folds land evenly across the whole run, however wide.
As close to the ceiling as the structure allows rather than just above the window. It adds visible height to the room and improves the drop of the pleats.
