Bathrooms combine constant humidity with a hard privacy requirement. PVC rollers and aluminium venetians handle both: they are unaffected by steam, they will not grow mould, and they close to give complete privacy without the fabric problems a curtain would bring.
What survives constant steam?
PVC roller fabric and aluminium slats. Both are non-absorbent, so there is nothing for mould to take hold in. Faux wood also works. Real timber, roman blinds and any natural fabric will warp, stain or grow mould in a bathroom.
How do I get privacy without losing all the light?
A translucent white PVC roller passes daylight while making shapes unreadable from outside, day and night. It is the usual answer for a bathroom window that is the room’s only light source.
Where should the blind be fitted?
Outside the recess wherever possible, so the mechanism sits away from direct splash and condensation runs off the glass rather than into the headrail. Inside the recess looks neater but collects moisture at the fixings.
