Linen and cotton suit these houses far better than anything technical — the rooms are generous and a heavy synthetic reads wrong in them. For the arched windows we either make a fixed sheer to the shape and hang a straight curtain below it, or fit a bespoke curved track. Wooden venetians work well in Jumeirah kitchens and studies where a fabric blind would feel heavy.
Fabrics that survive Jumeirah
Jumeirah villas suit natural fabrics in a way that tower apartments do not. The rooms are generous, the ceilings are high, and a heavy synthetic reads cheap in them. Linen and linen-blends hang with the weight these houses want, and a cotton-backed lining gives you room darkening without the plastic hand of a coated blackout. The one caution is sun: unlined linen on a south or west window in Jumeirah will go pale within a couple of years, so we line everything that takes direct light, which also stops the fabric from telegraphing the sun's outline through to the room.
Cost and lead time
A Jumeirah villa is rarely a single quote. Most are eight to fourteen windows across two floors, and the ground floor usually wants something different from the bedrooms — linen and sheers downstairs where the rooms are for sitting in, blackout upstairs where they are for sleeping.
