In short
Eyelet curtains (also called grommet curtains) hang from metal rings punched directly through the fabric, threaded onto a pole. They form deep, evenly spaced vertical folds, glide easily by hand, and suit contemporary rooms where the pole is meant to be seen.
What makes eyelet curtains different from pleated ones?
The heading. Eyelets thread onto a pole and produce uniform soft waves; pinch and pencil pleats hang from a track on hooks and produce structured, tailored folds. Eyelets read as casual and modern, pleats as formal.
Practically, eyelets are the easiest heading to draw by hand because the ring slides directly on the pole with almost no friction.
Can eyelet curtains be blackout lined?
Yes. Blackout lining is fitted behind the face fabric exactly as with any other heading. The one thing to know is that the fold at the top of each eyelet leaves a small gap against the wall, so eyelets leak slightly more light at the top than a track-mounted curtain.
For a bedroom that has to be truly dark we usually recommend a pleated heading on a track instead, or a pelmet above the pole to close that gap.
Which pole finish should I choose?
Match the pole to the room’s other metals rather than to the fabric. Brushed brass and matt black are the two we fit most in Dubai apartments; brushed steel suits kitchens and offices.

Eyelet Curtains, answered.
They work well, but they leak a little more light at the top than a track-mounted pleat because the fabric waves away from the wall between eyelets. If total darkness is the priority, choose a pleated heading on a track.
About 15–20cm each side. This lets the curtain stack clear of the glass when open, so you get the full window and the full view.
Not conventionally — motors drive tracks, and eyelets need a pole. If you want motorisation we would move you to a wave or pleated heading on a motorised track, which gives a very similar look.
Always an even number, so both leading edges face the room. Spacing is typically 15–18cm; we calculate it from your finished width so the folds come out even.
Yes, with a centre support bracket on runs over about 3 metres. The curtain passes the bracket if we specify a pass-through design, which we do as standard on wide poles.
Medium to heavy. Light fabrics do not have the weight to hold the deep wave the heading is designed for, and end up looking limp. Sheers are better on a wave track than on eyelets.
