Motorized curtains run on an electric track operated by remote, wall switch, phone app or voice assistant. They suit tall or wide windows that are awkward to reach, and they can run on a schedule — closing at sunset and opening in the morning without anyone touching them.
Do motorized curtains need wiring?
Not always. Battery-powered motors recharge every six to twelve months and need no electrical work, which makes them the practical choice for apartments and rented properties. Hard-wired motors are quieter and never need charging, but need a power point near the track.
For villas and any project still at fit-out stage we recommend hard-wiring. If the walls are already finished, battery motors avoid chasing cable through them.
Which smart home systems do they work with?
The motors we fit work with Alexa, Google Home and Apple HomeKit, and most support Matter. That means the curtains appear alongside your lights and thermostat rather than needing a separate app.
We set this up during installation and show you how to create the scenes you will actually use, rather than leaving you with a manual.
How loud are they?
Quiet enough for a bedroom. A good motor runs at roughly 35–40 dB, comparable to a fridge in the next room. Cheap motors are the ones people complain about — they whine and judder rather than glide.

Battery motors keep working normally. Hard-wired tracks stop, but every motor we fit can be moved by hand, so you are never stuck with curtains you cannot close.
Every six to twelve months in normal use, via USB-C. The motor warns you in the app before it runs low. Adding a small solar strip at the window extends this to effectively permanent.
Usually yes, if the curtains are in good condition and the heading suits a motorised track. We check the fabric weight and heading at the free visit and tell you honestly whether it is worth it.
Yes. Schedules by clock time or by local sunrise and sunset are standard. Many clients set the bedroom to open gently at wake-up time and the living room to close at dusk.
The standard motors handle tracks up to about 6 metres and heavy lined blackout fabric without difficulty. Beyond that we split the run or specify a higher-torque motor.
Around two hours for a typical room including pairing and scene setup, longer if a new power point is needed. Lead time is about seven working days because the track is cut and assembled to your measurements.
