In short
Sheer curtains are lightweight open-weave panels that diffuse daylight instead of blocking it. They soften harsh Gulf sun, cut glare on screens and give daytime privacy from outside while you can still see out. Most Dubai homes use them as the day layer over a blackout curtain.
Do sheer curtains give you privacy?
During the day, yes — brighter outside than inside means people cannot see in. After dark that reverses: with lights on indoors, sheers alone give almost no privacy. This is why they are nearly always paired with a second layer.
A tighter weave and a fuller gather both increase daytime privacy. We usually specify two-and-a-half to three times the track width in fabric, which gives the deep folds that make the difference.
What fabrics work best in the UAE climate?
Polyester voile and linen-look polyester blends. Both resist the UV fading that destroys natural linen and silk in a west-facing Dubai window, and both hang without absorbing humidity, so they keep their drape year round.
We generally steer clients away from pure natural sheers on sun-facing elevations. They look beautiful for a season and then yellow and weaken.
Can sheers be layered with blackout curtains?
Yes, and it is the most common specification we fit. A double track carries the sheer on the window side and the blackout curtain in front, so you can run either layer independently in one movement.

Questions
Sheer Curtains, answered.
Yes. Once it is darker outside than inside, sheers stop providing privacy. Pair them with a blackout or dim-out curtain on a double track for the evening.
Two-and-a-half to three times the track width. Sheers rely entirely on fullness for their look — a flat sheer reads as cheap, and the extra fabric costs less than most people expect because the material itself is light.
A little. They cut glare and take the edge off direct sun, but they do not meaningfully reduce solar heat gain. For heat you need a coated blackout lining or a technical sunscreen blind.
Most polyester sheers can be washed cold on a gentle cycle and rehung damp to drop out the creases. Check the specific fabric — we note the care method on your order.
Wave and pencil pleat both work well because they hold even, regular folds. Wave gives a cleaner contemporary look; pencil pleat is softer and more traditional.
Quality polyester sheers are UV-stable and hold colour for years. Natural linen and silk sheers will yellow and weaken on a sun-facing window, which is why we rarely specify them there.
